Today was our last full day in Italy.

Our bus was scheduled to depart at 8am from Castello Sonnino, so before we left I went to the bakery one last time to get some snacks for the road.

I fell asleep on the bus again, of course, but when I woke up we were stuck in traffic.

I total we were delayed by 1 hour and just missed our train to Rome. However it wasn’t too bad since that was the train we booked to leave Florence earlier, and our original train was set to leave at 11:50.

So we missed our earlier train which was unfortunate but we still had the other train as we weren’t able to cancel it when we rebooked. However Nathan and Jackson needed to book a new train so that sucked.

Since we arrived in Florence around 10am we still had plenty of time until the second train so we went for breakfast by the duomo, after I got my iced Alproccino (pistachio and salted carmel coffee).

After breakfast we got on our train which was one of the fast ones. And Gabi said the views were so pretty. I wouldn’t really know since I was sleeping.

Once we arrived in Rome the train said the temperature was 41 degrees which was worrisome, however it was actually 36. Still very hot but a little better. Just a little.

In Rome we walked from Roma Termini to Nathan and Jackson’s hotel where we cooled off for a bit and Gabi left her bags.

After we walked to McDonald’s. I know… but we wanted to see how it was different.

I ordered 9 nuggets (yes, 9. They didn’t come in 10 they came in 3, 6, 9 or 20), fries and Asiago bites.

The Asiago bites were really good and they had some sort of meat in it, I think it was ham. The nuggets tasted different than in Canada, they tasted more seasoned. The fries just tasted like McDonald’s fries.

After the McDonald’s we all took the bus to the Jewish Ghetto where we walked around and saw the baby coliseum.

After this Gabi, Nathan and Jackson went to see more sites in Rome and I started the journey to Ostia.

I bussed back to the Roma Termini where I bought a ticket to go the Fiumicino airport where I would bus almost directly to our b&b. Easy right? No…

I was waiting staring at the board waiting to see what platform my train was on. And when it finally showed it was at 5:11 and the train was scheduled to leave at 5:12, all the way from platform 27 which was at the end of 24 AND 25.

By the time I made it I watched my train disappear which was quite sad.

After that I walked all the way back down 25 and 24 to the customer service box only for him to tell me to take the next train which is at platform 26!

So I ran back down platform 24 and 25, and oh my am I not in sprinting shape. Anyways I made it to 26 only for the doors to shut in my face!

But it was ok because I pressed the green button and they opened again. Once I got on I looked at the stops only to be really confused because none of them were the airport and it was actually going a slightly different direction.

After looking up all the different stops I decided to get off at Roma Trastevere since it was the farthest I could go with going the wrong direction.

Funny enough, once I got off I realized that I was at the station I was supposed to switch trains at anyways, and my ticket just shortened the name to Roma Trastev.

However since I got on a different train I had missed my transfer. But the board said there was another train at 6:20pm going to the airport so I only had to wait 20 minutes. Great!

Apparently not. It’s now 6:53 and the train still isn’t here, however all the trains have been delayed because of a fire near the tracks somewhere.

Anyways. I’m waiting here at Roma Trastevere on platform 5 which said it’s going to the Fiumicino Airport . But the sign says 14:51 departure, delayed… so I’m not really sure when this train is coming.

I have hope the train is coming because I’m not the only one waiting on this platform.

I just want to swim in Fiumicino… can’t a girl just have an easy travel day?

After waiting an hour I found out that all the trains to the Fiumicino Airport were cancelled so I walked from the station to a bus stop, got on a bus, went to the metro station, took the metro, got off at Magliana, got a little lost trying to find the bus stop, missed the bus (still don’t know where it is) went back on the metro, took it to Ostia Antica, got a little lost again finding the bus stop, missed bus, then walked to the nearest area which was a bunch of football fields. In the parking lot I spoke to some people but they didn’t speak good English and weren’t from the area.

I walked further into the football club and spoke to someone working at a little bar. He called a taxi for me and kept me company until it arrived

I took a taxi which really hurt because I was 8.8km away and it cost 40 euro but I was so tired and I tried really hard for 5 hours to use public transit, that I decided I just need to get there and be safe, since it had gotten dark already.

5 hours later I arrived at the b&b but I stood by the gate for a whole minute before touching it and realizing that it wasn’t locked the whole time. Oopsies.

Thankfully Rachelle met me at the door and let me in.

After dropping off my bags we went out to get gelato because I was so hungry. Then we went to get some food. I order Carbonara, and a pop which was kinda pricey but I didn’t care at the time.

On the way to the ice cream I saw and made friends with a kitty and all was well. It was the first cat I’ve seen this trip that didn’t run from me.

After we walked back and I went to sleep because I am exhausted from my impromptu adventure.
