Today we had a few lectures. The first one opened discussion on how ideologies of the living world change through different cultures. Such as how the western world views humans and the natural world in a hierarchical system, where humans are superior and emphasis mastery over things “below” us. Versus, the idea of unity and looking for support and guidance from the natural world.
The second lecture tied those ideas into the concept of how food and water sources can describe geographical human behaviour.
After 2 hours of lectures we had lunch which was bow tie pasta followed by rice stuffed tomatoes and quiche.
We had a short break and got together to discuss a reading about Lucca and how the ban on “non-traditional” Italian restaurants brings up the ideas of localism vs cosmopolitanism
After the discussion, everyone went to prepare for the student hosted dinner.
We ended up on providing bread, cheese and meats to start; water melon salad and meatballs as and appetizer; gnocchi with two different sauces for entree and ice cream, with strawberry sauce and peach’s.
I helped prep some of the food such as rolling the meatballs, plating the cheese and grinding salt and pepper in the mortar and pestle.

After dinner we all stuck around and danced to some music and sang.

Then I went to sleep.
